Monsters Beyond the Dragon-Fire

Sharing the wisdom of Dragons….

MacKENZIE's Dragon's Nest

These are the days of spooks and goblins, ghosts and ghouls. Days when spirits cross between worlds and ban-sidhe wails ride the winds. Perfect time to stir the embers of nightmares: binge on horror flicks, attend a séance, visit a haunted house. Court the monsters of the shadows and the things that go bump in the night.

Long ago, when our ancestors huddled together in fire-warmed caves, just living was a frightful proposition. In the darkness lurked bears and lions, serpents and birds of prey, all much larger and fiercer than their modern kin. And, most frightening of all, there were Dragons.

Rightly or wrongly, they haunted ancient dreams and struck terror in primeval hearts. It’s an understandable turn of events in a draconically unenlightened world. Even today, though our interspecies relations are at a passing level of détente, I know a Dragon or two who still get quite kick…

Join the Fight for #NetNeutrality

The Fight has begun again to save #NetNeutrality. Our present government. [The Trump White House and all its cronies] (what a joke . they are the thieves in the night) they are trying to role back time and destroy the conclusive FCC determination in 2015 to proclaim protection of #NetNeutrality. And once again Trump is going after the destruction of another Obama initiative . this time #NetNeutrality . a protection which opens up the free use of the Internet by all . not just overstuffed conglomerates who want to rule the world with their greed and shut down the voices who want to expose the Truth of what is happening in the world. – j.kiley

The Open Internet rules put in place by the FCC in 2015 are based upon a solid legal framework that has been sustained by the courts. The FCC Net Neutrality rules effectively safeguard the open Internet as an engine of innovation and investment and as a global platform for free expression.

Net Neutrality is one of the most important free expression issues of our time because without Net Neutrality, ISPs would be able to charge content providers more to access the Internet or to reach other users, frustrating the free flow of information. Moreover, without Net Neutrality in force, ISPs would even be able to block content they don’t like, reject apps and content that compete with their own offerings, and arbitrarily discriminate against particular content providers by prioritizing certain Internet traffic over theirs. This is especially critical for smaller and noncommercial voices, who would be unable to pay a new ISP broadband toll for “fast lane” service. Relegating certain content to the backwaters of the Internet in second or third-tier status reduces the visibility and impact of important voices in the local, national, or global media mix.

Without the guiding principles of #NetNeutrality, it is entirely possible Twitter would not have come from a somewhat quirky experimental 140-character SMS service to where they are today, an international company with thousands of employees and a service that incorporates pictures, video, and live streaming and connects the world to every side of what’s happening.

July 12, 2017, is a Day of Action to Save Net Neutrality and we are joining other high tech companies and the netroots community to encourage people to let the FCC know their opinion. Join the conversation on Twitter by using the hashtag #NetNeutrality. If you would like to submit a comment for the record with the FCC, you can click this link and click on “Express” to get started. Express is under the heading ‘Proceedings’ . go to the far right . it’s lettering is in blue. Click and fill in what is necessary and write the message you want to send the FCC.

KEEP #NetNeutrality in place. Keep it safe.

Wise Words for Troubled Times….

There are times when the troubles swirling around us seem overwhelming. When the last thing we seem able to do is stop and see with openness and clarity.  When in the midst of chaos, active, in-the-streets resistence looms paramount while art – and philosophy – often feel like rarified responses. In the recent issue of Poet’s Country Sam O’Hana sits down with American philosopher and gender theorist, Judith Butler to discuss an analysis of poetry at Guantanamo and International Consortium of Critical Theory Programs. Judith offers the following on just why and how we need art so badly in times like these. [Read the whole interview if you can – or at least part of it edited for Lit Hub. I’ve known Judith since we went to college together. Her words are always fascinating, thought provoking, and well worth your time.]

“Finally, it is hard to stay sensate during these times, to see and feel and hear what is happening. There is always the temptation to turn it all off, to exit, to suspend the knowledge of reality, to take leave. In some ways, literature and the arts help to make the world bearable so that we can tarry there longer with the desire to know and understand, to engage, and to transform what calls to be transformed.”

I would like to know why tax-payers money is being used so the President can go to Mar-a-Lago almost every weekend since the Inauguration & members of his family can go to Aspen or other locations – for business and pleasure – at the people’s expense.

Mar-a-lago (Not a Complete View)

Local businesses & residents have to endure a total disruption to their lives and livelihoods, with incomes suffering and even identities being called into question when they are returning to their private homes. Not to mention the strain put on the cities of New York and Palm Beach. It costs approximately $3 Million per weekend at Mar-a-Lago. Five visits so far equals approximately $15 Million. Add that to the costs to the nation of securing Trump Tower and you’re talking approximately $100 million from the national treasury to allow him and his family to live in the opulent luxury to which they were accustomed. And he’s only been president for 2 months. The total costs of Mira-a-lago & Aspen & other jaunts down the road are inestimable.

Who knows exactly how much the Trump-family bilking of the National Treasury will cost us, the tax payers, to cover all these unnecessary expenses for the continued future of this presidency. The White House is a palatial residence. Camp David is there for Presidents to go to relax. And to meet with other heads of state. He is the President & not meant to live in gold-plated luxury. Living his high life when he turns around and rips up all the programs that help the less fortunate is shameful. If he refuses to use the residence and security provided all previous presidents, then we should, as a Country, send him a bill for all these added expenses. I would also include New York City’s expenses to maintain protection for Trump Towers which the President has not been using. Of course, it would make sense for his wife to move with their son to the White House & be protected.  It’s the polite thing to do – they’re not the only people who call Trump Tower home. And I am sure there are great schools in the Washington D.C. area. Maybe a charter school is available.

Aspen is described as the quintessential American ski town

Luxurious architecture in Aspen during the climes of winter

Since the President obviously wants to destroy the public schools & all other, non-defense departments of the government, it might do his son good to associate with children from more honest, moral backgrounds. They might be able to teach him lessons his father never will. The games Bannon & the President are playing are not as invisible as they might think. Just leave the White House & stop ripping off the people you promised to help if you were elected. Oh, that’s right: in actuality you didn’t win the election. The Electoral College is obsolete & your Presidency is nothing more than a joke. I am waiting for you to leave voluntarily before you are found out and tried for treason. And I would like you to know we know you lie all the time & then spin the lies about your lies, trying to cause a disoriented sense of reality. You are not fooling anyone. Soon the despotic emperor will be seen for what he is: in place of his new clothes, there will be nothing but his small-handed, naked self. Ugly as Dorian Gray’s portrait in the attic.

Camp David was Good enough for John F. Kennedy and his family, why Not-My-President? Is it not opulent enough for you? Maybe you need to take a visit with Nature. It might just clear your mind and enable you to see the world with a keener eye. OMG! I must be losing my mind. Who do I think I am talking to?
